I totally get wanting to ditch the paper maps! For my last trip to Yosemite, I did a ton of research before I left, looking at various travel apps and gathering information from all sorts of sources. What really helped me were liven reviews and the experiences other hikers shared about different apps and their features. Some apps have offline maps which are crucial when you're out of service range, and others are great for identifying plants and animals along the trails. There are also apps that keep you updated on trail closures and hazards, which is a major plus. Ultimately, I found combining a couple of apps with some good old-fashioned guidebooks was the best approach for me. It really depends on what you are looking for most in your visit.
