Introducing: Google Docs and PDF downloads for Blank Slate

Big update guys: you can now save your blank slates as Google Docs or download them as PDFs. For Google docs just press ⌘ + g and for PDFs just press ⌘ + p (ctrl instead of command for Windows). Extensions are an important part of Blank Slate long term, and while I'm excited hundreds of people are seeing value it in it without them, I'm excited to launch the first two for you all today.

I want to focus on why the Google Docs integration in particular is important. Blank Slate is the place where you write. That's it. When you have something you want to write, you don't need to think - you just pop open a tab with http://blankslate.io as the URL and start writing. If you want to do more than write, Blank Slate will facilitate that through extensions. Google Docs is the first big extension for Blank Slate, and it's critical: you can now take your thoughts and turn them into collaborative documents you can share with almost anyone.

Since we launched on Product Hunt and were picked up by Coffitivity, I've had a ton of feature requests. Everything from interactive to-do lists, to collaboration, to syncing with various third parties. I wish I had been able to show everyone these first integrations then, because my vision is to allow ALL of that - by utilizing extensions. I don't want to clutter up the core Blank Slate interface by adding functionality when there are plenty of apps that do things with text already! I want Blank Slate to be a serene place for you to write, edit, and format your thoughts. The end. That means:

And that's my promise to you: no new features. Many new extensions.

I'll be announcing the open source project for this soon, and anyone will be able to add their own extensions (it technically exists now, the code just isn't ready for publicity :) ). I hope you like it, and email me at tomasienrbc@gmail.com or find me on twitter with any feedback you have. I built this for you, I want to hear from you.
