Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 26, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Scott William Clark ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use Blankslate.io (the "Service").

1. Information We Collect

Account information. If you create a permanent account, we collect your email address and a hashed password. Guest accounts may be associated with a session identifier stored in cookies.

Note content. We store the notes you create, including metadata such as creation/update timestamps, archive status, and whether a note is public.

Usage and device information. We may collect information about how you use the Service, including pages visited, browser type, IP address, and similar technical data through cookies and analytics tools (such as Google Analytics via Google Tag Manager).

Third-party integration data. If you use Google Docs export, we interact with Google's services according to your authorization. We may store associated links or tokens needed to provide that feature.

2. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
  • Authenticate users and save notes
  • Enable sharing, PDF export, and optional Google Docs export
  • Respond to support or legal requests
  • Monitor usage, troubleshoot, and protect against abuse
  • Comply with legal obligations

3. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information:

  • When you make a note public: anyone with the link may view it
  • With service providers who help us operate the Service (for example, hosting, analytics), subject to appropriate safeguards
  • With Google when you choose to export a note to Google Docs, governed by Google's policies
  • For legal reasons if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security
  • In a business transfer if the Service is acquired or merged (with notice where required)

4. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember preferences (such as first-visit onboarding), and understand usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings, but some features may not work if cookies are disabled.

5. Data Retention

We retain account information and notes for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Archived notes may be retained until deleted. We may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as security logs).

6. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information. To make a request, contact blankslateio@proton.me. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

You can delete notes through the Service (including archives). To delete a permanent account, contact us at the email above.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

9. International Users

If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where we or our providers operate.
